Steve Anderson
is an actor, storyteller, and living history interpreter with more than twenty
years of performance experience. His
touring series, Great Tales Live, visits schools, theatres,
libraries, senior centers, and special events throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
He has appeared in more than one
hundred stage plays, including
leading and supporting roles in dramas, comedies, musicals, and everything in
between. Some favorites include Blithe Spirit at York Little Theatre, Amadeus at Gretna Theatre, Dr. Cook’s Garden at Oyster Mill
Playhouse, and The Compleat Works of Wm
Shakspr (Abridged) at Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg.
On screen, Steve has been featured in
two full-length independent films,
had speaking roles in a variety of commercials, training videos, and shorts,
and of course appeared as an extra or a promotional model any number of times.
He’s particularly fond of interactive theatre, including ten
years with the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and two years as an interactive
performer at Hershey’s Chocolate World, Hersheypark, and Whitaker Center for
Science and the Arts.
A former English professor, Steve has
been able to incorporate his teaching experience into a career as an educational theatre specialist. He’s given more than a thousand educational
performances, including school assemblies on liquid nitrogen and static
electricity, multimedia presentations on the making of chocolate, and character
roles in touring plays on good nutrition, healthy exercise, and the life of
Amelia Earhart.
One of Steve’s particular interests is
Civil War history. He’s led more than
seven hundred live walking tours in
Gettysburg, and he’s a founding member of the Pennsylvania Past Players, a living history troupe affiliated with
Pennsylvania’s Civil War Trails program.
And his first-person program on attorney-turned-Congressman Thaddeus
Stevens is available to non-profits throughout the state through the PA
Humanities Council’s Commonwealth Speakers program.
Of course, Steve’s teaching background
also comes in handy as an acting coach. Steve has taught dozens of acting workshops,
improv classes, and drama camps, for children, teens, and adults.
Always up for a new challenge, Steve is
also a director, playwright, a member
of the International Museum Theatre Alliance, and a certified actor-combatant with the Society of
American Fight Directors.
